Development and Implementation of IWRM Strategy in Kyrgyzstan
The national component in Kyrgyzstan is focused on the development and implementation of a country-wide system for integrated water resources management and water efficiency strategies at the national level and at the basin level.


The project will focus on specific interventions to improve:
  • Irrigation, rural water supply and sanitation sectors;
  • Coordination in development and implementation of IWRM and institutional reforms in water sector;
  • Development of cross-border dialogue on selected water basin.

Expected Results:

  • Improved irrigation technologies demonstrate the feasibility of obtaining high crop yields with a decreased use of water for irrigation;
  • Elaborated plans for improvement of the rural water supply and sanitation based upon demonstration pilot project which exhibit practical management tools and feasibility studies for possible donor funding;
  • Elaborated realistic national strategy for development and implementation of IWRM, institutional reforms, financial policy, investment plans that will optimize the feasibility water sector;
  • Support to bilateral Kyrgyz-Tajik cooperation on joint water management, coordination of water management in the selected basin.
  • Support to bilateral Kyrgyz-Kazakh cooperation on joint water management, coordination of water management in the Chu-Talas basin.
